I 'won' these on Ebay... if you can call paying almost $100 a win! Mooks is a very trendy teen street wear store which opened in Melbourne in 1991... These Matryoshka's weren't sold, they were given to shops selling Mooks for either display or to keep. I've never seen anything like them before, they are my largest set at almost 28cm, all hand painted and with stickers on them of the Mooks labels. Where does the name Mooks come from.
This question is posed in the classic 1973 Martin Scorsese film, "Mean Streets" and once featured on a now infamous Mooks t-shirt graphic. Mook is old New York slang for a hipster, a hustler, a wiseguy or even a fool.
Our Horned light bulb logo can have many meanings. It's meant to represent devilish wit, but however you want to see it is fine with us.
